Embarking on a journey towards a healthier lifestyle after undergoing Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy (VSG) can be both exciting and challenging. VSG Diet Support supports you in optimising your post-VSG well-being, and health coaching has emerged as a valuable resource.

Here, I delve into getting health coaching for your VSG body, highlighting the steps in facilitating a holistic approach to wellness. It is detailed and personal but enlightening and refreshing for you, as to be given this time to talk about you and how you are doesn't happen often. So let yourself open up, and we can find you a perfect starting block.

Booking a Welcome Call

I will send you a brief questionnaire after you have scheduled your free 30-minute call for a convenient date. This will give me a starting point for our conversation and give me an idea of your initial requirements.

Welcome Video Call

The journey begins with a warm and welcoming video call where you get to meet your health coach. This initial interaction serves as an opportunity to establish rapport, discuss your concerns, and explore your feelings post-VSG. It's a chance for both you and I, as your coach, to align on goals and expectations for the upcoming sessions.

Honest Food Diary and Photos

A pivotal aspect of the health assessment involves keeping an honest food diary. I will guide you in documenting your daily meals, including portion sizes, nutritional content, and the timing of your meals. I will also ask you to provide photos of your meals and shopping trolley. Plus, some pictures of the foods you indulged in before your surgery, including meals you miss eating. This detailed insight allows me to understand your pre-VSG eating habits and identify areas for improvement now to safeguard your future.

The food diary and photos offer a tangible glimpse into your dietary choices, aiding us in tailoring recommendations based on your specific nutrition needs. It also serves as a platform for open communication about your preferences, dislikes, and any foods you may miss after the VSG procedure.

Planning a Full Health Assessment

Following the Welcome video call, the health coaching process progresses to a comprehensive health assessment. This step involves a thorough examination of both your working body and the various factors in your lifestyle and environment. I aim to understand the unique dynamics influencing your well-being by taking a holistic view.

The detailed assessment will give you and me a complete understanding of where you are with your health. These are the sections we will cover in-depth:

  • Health History

  • Medications

  • Supplements

  • Allergies or Sensitivities

  • Sleep Health

  • Digestive Health

  • Nervous System (Headaches, pins and needles etc)

  • Endocrine Health (hormone Health)

  • Immune System Health

  • Respiratory Health

  • Urinary Health

  • Heart Health, including blood pressure.

  • Muscles and joints

  • Skin Health

  • Relationships, Stress & Family History

  • Overall Fitness

The Wheel of Life Assessment is a self-reflection tool that represents different areas of life as segments on a wheel. These areas typically include yourself, family, life environment, goals and work.

Collaborative Goal Setting

Once the assessment phase is complete, we will set health goals and lifestyle targets together and collaboratively. These goals may encompass various aspects such as nutrition, physical activity, stress management, and sleep. Establishing realistic and achievable objectives ensures a gradual and sustainable approach to post-VSG wellness. It sounds painful, but we will take it step by step.

Comprehensive Plan Implementation

With goals in place, I will craft a comprehensive plan to address your unique needs. This plan may include personalised dietary recommendations, exercise routines, and strategies for managing stress and other lifestyle factors. The plan implementation is gradual, allowing you to adapt to changes progressively.

Follow-up session

A follow-up session in health coaching is a subsequent meeting between a health coach and their client after the initial assessment or coaching session. These sessions are crucial for monitoring progress, providing ongoing support, and adjusting goals or strategies. Critical components of a follow-up session in health coaching may include:

  • Goal Adjustment

  • Progress Review

  • Motivation and Support

You have one follow-up session, but you can book additional sessions. They are integral to health coaching, providing ongoing guidance, support, and accountability. They contribute to the client's overall success in achieving and maintaining their health and wellness goals.

Conclusion

With all this information you now have on how health coaching works for you, I hope you understand the process better. Health coaching for your VSG body offers a personalised and supportive approach to post-surgery wellness. From the initial welcome video call to the comprehensive health assessment, honest food diary, and collaborative goal setting, each step plays a crucial role in tailoring a plan that aligns with your needs.
