With December just around the corner, it’s a great opportunity to create small changes to build up into a great diet.
Think about the little changes you could make each day. For example, if you have a latte coffee each day swap it for a filter coffee or an Americano. If you have toast and jam each day for breakfast, hold off on the jam.
So how do we create a personalised diet advent calendar?
Simple, using either your phone, laptop or an old fashioned notebook (my personal choice), make a list of all the items you put into your mouth each day that you know you shouldn’t be eating. If you can, write out how and why you do.
For example, custard cream biscuits each time I make a cuppa of tea because the packet is next to the tea bags! Or, a slice of cheese from the fridge as I open it because I think I am hungry and the slices are right in front of my eyes.
By doing this method you can build up a picture and an honest understanding of your eating habits.
Your list could even be as simple as a smaller helping of Kellogg’s Frosties.
This list should be taken seriously as this is for you to help you, little daily gifts to make you feel better. I would expect the list to take you a good hour to complete if you have decided to include how and why.
Your list should contain ideally 24 little diet fixes that you can make each day that you feel are comfortably possible. If you feel that 24 little daily alterations are too much then add in some little self pleasures.
How about taking a little longer in the shower, or having a bath before bed, and if that doesn’t really excite you then add in a few self disciplines, a 30-minute walk outside or sweep the garden, weather permitting of course!
Use the month of December to give you, your body and soul little daily gifts. You may not think that taking a morsel of comfort food away from you is a gift but it is and you will hardly realise that you have stopped as it is gradual.
The catch here is that each day you keep up the previous day's gift to yourself.
Like this;
Tuesday 1st Dec - replace my morning latte for filtered coffee
Wednesday 2nd Dec - don’t eat any custard cream biscuits and have filtered coffee
Thursday 3rd Dec - have one fried egg at breakfast, not two and don't eat any custard cream biscuits and have filtered coffee
And so on. Though you don’t have to write it all out just look at your personal advent diet plan.
As December moved through all your little diet gifts will begin to add up gently to a good way of eating.
Remember this is your personalised advent calendar what you decide to stop or do is up to you. Planning ahead makes light work of this method as ad hoc dieting leads to a short-lived diet. Contact me now for me tips and advice.
