Getting it right at the start is vital if you seriously want to lose weight forever and change how you eat. If you think you can slip out for a pizza or a curry or eat a couple of Mars bars, you are doomed for failure.
Having the gastric sleeve is the best way to get you motivated and see weight loss, but it's up to you to get a healthy lifestyle working to live life to the full and obtain and sustain a healthy way of life. I never thought I would say that I love going to the gym or I need to have a walk after a meal, but I do. I love this new lifestyle, but there is not a day when I think back to how I used to eat and when I flip through old notebooks, I see page after page of planned takeaway orders from my past life. When I eat now and get full even on my small portions, I feel utterly repulsed that I used to eat enough for a small family in one sitting and even though I would be full-up and feel like a bloated whale, I would do the same each day. Now I eat and feel full on tiny portions of good nutritious food and have lost over 30kgs in a year. I can swim, dance, run, and shop for clothes in shops I usually walk past. I am healthy and love living, so yes, it is worth it, so here is my advice to you from someone who has done and gone through some emotional turmoil but won't look back but will only look forward.
An ideal situation is to take a small lunch out with you in this way. Then, you can monitor your portion size and know what you are putting into your new tummy to give up optimum nutrition.
There is no point in buying a meal out as it will just be a waste of money because you can only eat small amounts of food and these treats should only be for special occasions.
This advice may seem tedious, and you may feel that you will miss your delicious large, tasty meals, and you will find yourself salivating at the thought, but if you have stuck to the portion sizes, you will not be able to gorge. So do not waste your money, instead share a meal out if the restaurant will allow it.
How to eat when you are out
Eat slowly
Chew every mouthful until it becomes mush in your mouth. This chewing will also allow your saliva to work through to your tummy, lubricating each food swallow.
Do not eat fast even if you are starving. Eating too fast will result in being very uncomfortable.
Soup - will become your menu choice, and believe me, a good soup is good.
Stop when you feel full, and you will know when this is anymore after this will be a mistake.
Do not drink whilst eating.
Drink at least an hour before food and let it pass through your tummy.
Choice food carefully, best if the food comes with a sauce.
Chew chew chew.
Remember only to eat small portions, the portions you are used to and do not worry if you leave food. You can do this and you will feel good and proud.
